Irish in Aotearoa Report
Mapping the Irish Community and People of Irish heritage in NZ
Kia Ora, E Hoa Mā, Dia Dhaoibh a Chairde, Dear Friends,
To help us to better understand the breadth and depth of Irish connections in Aoteaora New Zealand, we teamed up with the Centre for Irish and Scottish Studies at the University of Otago
on a national project that maps Irish citizens and community across all 16 regions of New Zealand. Irish in Aotearoa is the first contemporary research of the Irish population and people of Irish heritage in Aotearoa. This research was commissioned by the Embassy of Ireland, New Zealand and funded by Department of Foreign Affairs of Ireland and conducted by the Centre for Irish and Scottish Studies at the University of Otago.
Survey Report
The report’s findings are available here for you to access. Please feel free to browse our flipbook, download the pdf, print a copy or distribute to others who may be interested. We hope that these findings will be a useful reference for members of the broader Friends of Ireland.
Data Visualisation
An interactive map of New Zealand has been designed which includes data for Irish population figures for each region. By moving a cursor over the figures on the map and graphs, data will expand to provide more detail, where possible. You can access all sections and customise your own search by selecting sets from a drop down menu to identify specific results according to occupation, income, age and gender for individual regions. Please click into the map on the right for access.
If you would like more information on the report or have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at info@friendsofireland.co.nz
