A message to all on Brigid's day
February 1, 2021
Today, February 1st marks Brigid's Day
We're making February all about Brigid – an opportunity for us at the Friends of Ireland, alongside the Embassy of Ireland, to join the global Irish diaspora to celebrate the talent and creativity of wahine, mná, women living throughout Aotearoa.
We are very excited to be launching the initiative on the Friends of Ireland platform, which will aim to showcase the journeys, stories, work, and ambitions of Friends of Ireland women currently living in Aotearoa.
A message for Friends of Ireland from Uachtarán Michael D. Higgins,
President of Ireland on Brigid's Day.

How many of you whakapapa to Ireland? Are there similarities between the Irish and Māori stories? A love of rugby? Storytelling? Language revitalisation? A shared history of colonisation and resistance? In the link below you can watch as Moana travels to Ireland, the homeland of her mother’s whānau, to discover just how similar the Māori and Irish cultures really are in a special full-length episode. Funded and supported by Te Māngai Pāho and Whakaata Māori. Watch the full episode here
